Moonrise is my second original work from 2018, although I did not share this work with anyone until 2022.

This score is inspired by Stephen Paulus' work, Evensong, and his beautiful treatment of nature-based texts. After studying and performing his piece, I felt compelled to explore a more tonally adventurous space with another nature-based text. The realism-era poetry, “Moonrise” by Hilda Dolittle (aka HD), speaks about the moon as if she were a woman, yet leaves some mystery about her existence. Variations in closed and open chordal structures follow the moon’s concealed journey through sunset through her revealing after dusk and into midnight.
